CORBAAL x ERIK TRUFFAZ – WHAT’S MY NAME
An electro-jazz trio that blurs the boundaries between the organic and the digital.

Artistic encounter: a breath and machines
CORBAAL x ERIK TRUFFAZ is the meeting of two worlds: that of CORBAAL, an electro duo formed by Lola Bastard and Michael Stroudinsky, and that of Erik Truffaz, the legendary trumpeter of the European jazz scene. On one side, machines, modular textures, and an ethereal voice; on the other, a breath recognizable among thousands, nourished by decades of collaborations (Oxmo Puccino, Sophie Hunger, Selah Sue…). After a first collaboration on the EP LUNAR in 2022, the trio now establishes itself as a full-fledged group, where the trumpet no longer appears as a feature but in constant dialogue with the electronic production.

A sensitive and free fusion project
Composed between February and December 2024, WHAT’S MY NAME is an album born from a musical residency in the Alps, long vinyl listening sessions, and a shared desire to compose with three voices. More than a series of tracks, it’s a musical conversation between voice, trumpet, and machines. Between trip-hop, electro-pop, and cinematic jazz, the album explores notions of identity, memory, and personal narrative. The flagship track Kerrest, with its misty pads and melodic flights, perfectly embodies this delicate alchemy.

A cinematic and organic album
With six tracks, the album WHAT’S MY NAME marks a turning point in the trio’s dynamic. Where the first project LUNAR positioned Erik Truffaz as a guest, this new opus aims to be more fusion-oriented, with each element conceived in interdependence. Between improvisation, live recordings, and finely crafted electronic textures, the album reveals a rare form of intimacy in this hybrid genre. Special mention to the track Passos, where actress Sandrine Bonnaire lends her voice, adding an unexpected depth to this already highly sensory musical universe.
